Strategy to prepare for RBI Grade B Phase I
The phase I or the screening round or prelims is objective type and consists of 4 (four) sections or parts, namely,
1. General Awareness- 80 marks
2. English Language- 30 marks
3. Quantitative Aptitude- 30 marks and
4. Reasoning- 60 marks
To clear or compete successfully one has to secure minimum marks in each section with a total of 200-marks within 2 hours. Only those candidates who successfully clear phase 1 are eligible for the phase II exam. Before starting the preparation strategy for any exam, one should understand the pattern, type of questions asked and the areas or syllabus from where questions may put. Go through the provided syllabus, previous year's question papers, previous year’s cutoff marks and analysis of the strong and weaker sections. Accordingly, focus more on weaker areas. From previous cut-offs, one can get a rough idea of how much marks are needed to score to qualify for mains in each section. From these points, one can decide the order to attempt the different sections, time to be spent on each section, and a number of questions to be attempted in each section. Attempt questions according to the preparation. Give time according to the section-wise such as give: 18 -20 minutes time for English to score 25 marks, attempt 65-70 questions within 20 minutes with no confusion and high accuracy in general awareness, target to score at least 15 correct questions in 25-30 minutes quantitative aptitude, give 35 minutes time to attempt reasoning questions with high accuracy.
In RBI Grade B examination pattern followed is moderate. In Phase I one should prepare general awareness or current affairs part thoroughly as this part is very vast and the course is also very long in the present scenario. In present circumstances, one requires up to date information. Focus mainly on the current affairs of the past 3 (three) months current affairs and be aware of the major happenings of the whole year. Current events must be are related to the economy and banking section. Cover Current Affairs on a regular basis, revise weekly and once before the exam. There are many offline and online sources such as- GK Today website, PIB website, Newspaper, Speeches of RBI governor, Economic survey; Budget, Macroeconomics NCERT, bankersadda aap, online yard test AAP, etc. For the latest updated general awareness listen/watch News for 15-30 minutes daily., read the newspaper (The Hindu, Indian Express, Economic Times is recommended), make notes, give mock tests, read different magazines such as Pratiyogia Darpan, Wizards, Chronicle, etc. For English read the newspaper regularly to improve the knowledge. The scoring depends upon practice as options provided in answers to this section are confusing one. However, one have to do hard work vocabulary and to learn new difficult words daily to increase confidence and to enhance the chances of high scoring. Do a thorough practice of questions relating to arranging the sentences in order to make a meaningful passage. This section will help to clear the overall cut-off. So, maximize to score and clear this section.
As Quantitative Aptitude (QA) is related to the maths section this will need practice, practice and practice. There is no shortcut for this. This section contains topics such as Data interpretation (percentage, ratio, fractions, Venn diagram), Permutation, combination, probability, Pipes, Trains, Boats, Race, Profit, Loss, Discount, Averages, Mixtures, Alligations, SI, CI, AP, GP, HP, Linear & quadratic equations, Geometry– area & volume, Series completion, Time & work. As maths is a practical subject solve maximum topics in minimum time. The topics could be covered from the books such as Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Examinations by R.S. Agarwal, Data Interpretation by Arun Sharma, Objective Mathematics for Competitive Examinations by Tarun Goyal, Modern approach to verbal Reasoning by R.S Agarwal, etc. In this section quantitative questions are asked till 10th standard.
In The reasoning section is related to answers with meaningful reasons. This section too needs practice. Questions will be asked from syllogism, questions based on inequalities, mathematical equations, Statement, and conclusion, sitting arrangement (circular, row, building floor, Input-output machine, Statement and inference, Statement and assumption, Blood relations, Data sufficiency, Name-place-color-thing mapping, Direction test, Series completion.
