I am from engineering background, can I prepare for RBI?
1. Prelims or Phase I
2. Phase II or Mains
3. Personal Interview
The phase I is the screening round which is also known as prelims. This phase based on Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) or objective type and is divided into 4 (four) sections or parts with the total of 200 marks and have to sum up the ability test within 120 minutes i.e. 2 hours. The exams consists for four subjects, namely-
1. General Awareness- this section deals with current affairs and general knowledge and is of 80 marks
2. English Language- type of questions asked is related to specially grammar section which includes vocabulary, jumble sentences, etc., and is of 30 marks
3. Quantitative Aptitude- this is numerical aptitude test. Here questions are related to maths till 10th standard and is of 30 marks
4. Reasoning- there are various types of questions asked in this part. This section includes syllogisms, sitting arrangements, puzzles, etc., and is of 60 marks
Candidates successful in phase I are eligible for the Phase II or mains. This phase consists of three separate papers carrying hundred marks and 90 minutes is provided to solve each paper. The subjects are Social and economic issues, English, and Management & Finance. Subject English is made up of 3 parts: Comprehension, Essay and Precise Writing. One should write answers in his or her own language in Comprehension with word limit which is crucial. For Essay and Precise part read articles from newspaper and exercise hard to develop good mastery over the subject. For enhance vocabulary and grammar, para jumbles, Error correction etc., employ more and more exercises form different books and test papers. General Awareness of past last 6 months is ample. Watch news daily for at least 15 minutes, read articles from newspaper associated to economy and finance, note down important happening from newspaper every day, collect information or statistics from websites, aaps and YouTube channels,. This will help during last minute preparation. As Social and economic issues is broad section which covers economic and financial state of country in terms of inflation/deflation rate, GDP growth, GNP etc. This segment mostly trade in economic and financial environment of the country. Management & Finance this is the last paper. For this chunk understand the fundament concept of finance and management, write short notes and exercise problems to strengthen the confidence. If the subject seems to find difficult then take help from Commerce background friends and clear the context in this circumstances
Personal Interviews are conducted for those candidates who have unbolted the two phases of exam successfully are asked for personal interview or face-to-face interviews. Personal Interview is personality test, where questions asked are mostly in accordance to profile and information furnished in Curriculum Vitae. This phase is the final phase and those successful are informed about the duties and the place of posting.
Preparation Model for exam:
Before starting preparation first examine strong and weak areas, so that with extra efforts preparation can be made on particular subject. Prepare adaptable strategy to board changes as per personal circumstances, syllabus, and exam pattern. To compete successfully secure minimum marks in each section with the total of 200-marks within 2 hours. Those successful candidates of phase 1 are eligible for phase II. Understand pattern of exam before starting preparation strategy, type of questions asked and the areas or syllabus provided. Make preparation strategy according to the provided syllabus, previous years question papers, previous year’s cutoff marks and in accordance with the strong and weaker sections of oneself. Focus more on feeble areas. From previous year cut offs will help to get a rough idea for scoring needed marks to qualify for mains. These points helps in decision making in order to attempt the different sections, time to be exhausted on each sections and number of questions to seek in each section. Seek questions as per the preparation. Stretch time section wise to score as per the preparation. RBI Grade B examination pattern ordinary. As in Phase I general awareness or current affairs part is wide and prolonged update yourself. Focus on current affairs of past 6 months and should be aware of the major happenings of the whole year. Current events related to economy and banking section, current affairs should be watched on regular basis. Various offline and online sources such as- GK Today website, PIB website, Newspaper, Speeches of RBI governor, Economic survey; Budget, Macroeconomics NCERT, bankersadda aap, onlinetyari test aap, etc., are even helpful for good preparation. Listen News for 15-30 minutes daily, read newspaper especially The Hindu, Indian Express, Economic Times, draw up notes, give mock tests, read magazines such as Pratiyogia Darpan, Wizards, Chronicle, etc., to magnify the knowledge. For English interpret newspaper, work hard on vocabulary and learn new difficult words. Do deep practice questions related to sentences arrangement. Quantitative Aptitude (QA) relates maths and need practice to a great extent. Prepare this section by solving maths till 10th standard. In reasoning section answer questions with a valid reason. Prepare topics with quick tricks and tips to resolve the problems, make short notes on tips and tricks used to solve questions. Along with the strategy right selection of question is also important, as this helps to score much needed marks in exam. Questions skipping decision is also important as it saves for the questions which are well practiced and will score a good percentage in exam.
